7th grade social studies is the first half of a two year course of study in American history. The course covers pre-Columbian history through the years prior to the Civil War. An active, critical thinking approach to learning is emphasized through the examination of primary source material, and technology is incorporated into the learning process whenever possible. Throughout the year, students will have the opportunity to work on interdisciplinary social studies/language arts projects.Projects include a recreation of the Salem Witch Trials in the Fall and our Living History Expo which takes place in the spring. While there is currently no New York State Test in Social Studies given at the end of the 8th grade, students will be still be taught how to complete Constructed Response Questions and Document Based Essays in preparation for future state examinations.
Eighth grade English Language Arts is a course designed around four thematic units: The Dust Bowl, Environmental Literacy, Acceptance and Empathy, and Shakespearean Drama. During each unit, a project must be completed. This online community is intended to provide information for projects throughout the year. Feel free to explore the resources provided, but for the most part, you will be accessing this page to complete project work and submit assignments.
